Learning Community Exploration - TeacherTube

TeacherTube

The community I really enjoyed was TeacherTube. Here are my thoughts...

1. What is the goal or purpose of the community?

The goal of this community is to share educational information (content, grade level, tutorials, student projects) via video.

2. What types of interactions are available to the community?

All users can view public videos, users are able to upload their own video, users can create their own group and invite people to view, users can add comments, ratings, flag inappropriate videos or comments, users can save videos to a folder on their own computer or web browser, users can read blog and add comments, users can send messages to the video creators.

3. Do the interactions support the goals/purpose?

Yes, the interactions of this community support the goal. The videos open very fast and it is very easy to add your own comments about the video. Uploading video seems to be very easy; you just have to create one. This community is put together very well and it is easy to navigate and use.

4. What is the best quality of the community in terms of interaction?

The best quality of the community is video and being able to comment on those videos. It is a nice change of pace to actually view a video about a specific topic rather than to read about it. I had a lot of fun checking out the videos and found some really neat ones. Here is one that I thought all of you would enjoy. Check it out: Technology Fear Factor in Education http://www.teachertube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=d9fe611d5a8e90fefdc9&page=1&viewtype=&category=md

5. If you were a member, what changes would you like to see made in the community interactions to make it more suitable for you as a learner?

Teacher Tube did a great job providing several different formats for users to interact (video, comments, blogs, groups, email). The only thing I might suggest would be to have separate blog sections for teachers, students, and parents. It would be both interesting and educational to read the postings from three different perspectives.
